Triage: Nevada nuclear test site migrating radioactive fallout spreads disease, nationwide
Most of the cast of The Conqueror starring John Wayne & Susan Hayward, filmed in St. George Utah got cancer & immune deficiency diseases from nuclear radioactive fallout migrating from the Nevada nuclear test range, nationwide
NEVADA TEST SITE, USA — More than 1,000 nuclear detonations at the Nevada Test Site between 1951 and 1992 dispersed massive amounts of radioactive particles across the Earth, leading to wide-spread contamination and exposing the world’s entire population to dangerous radioisotopes.
History — The Nevada Test Site, located about 105 km northwest of Las Vegas, was the largest and most important nuclear weapons test site in the U.S.. From 1951 until 1992, a total of 1,021 nuclear tests were conducted on the 3,500 km² site: 100 above and 921 below ground. These tests released an estimated 222,000 Peta-Becquerel (Peta = quadrillion) of radioactive material into the atmosphere.
According to declassified documents of the Federal Civil Defense Administration, many of the tests were conducted specifically in order to determine the effects of nuclear fallout on the American public. As scientists found radioactive strontium in deciduous teeth of children in the U.S. and as rates of childhood leukemia and other cancers increased, public pressure began to grow to stop nuclear weapons testing.
In 1963, President Kennedy signed the Limited Test Ban Treaty, which put an end to atmospheric tests at the Nevada site. Underground nuclear testing continued until 1992, however; and, accidents continued to occur frequently: on December 18, 1970, for example, the underground “Baneberry” test of a 10-kiloton bomb released a plume of radioactive dust, which caused radioactive fallout to rain down on the test site personnel for many hours. An estimated total of 247 PBq of radioactive material was released, including 3 PBq of iodine-131. The radioactive plume continued to deposit fallout over northeast California, northern Nevada, southern Idaho and eastern sections of Oregon and Washington.
Health and environmental effects — In the 1950s, people living close to the test site were encouraged to watch the nuclear tests from their porches. Many of the so-called Downwinders report setting their alarm-clocks so that they would not miss the early-morning detonations.
Many were given radiation badges by the Atomic Energy Commission, so that their exposure dose could be recorded for field studies on the effects of nuclear fallout.
St. George, Utah — Due to prevailing wind currents, the inhabitants of Utah were among those most affected by radioactive fallout. Radioactive particles such as iodine-131 can enter the body through contaminated air, food or drink and can lead to cancer once incorporated. Children in the small town of St. George, Utah may have received thyroid doses of up to 1.2–4.4 Sievert. Subsequent epidemiological studies have shown a significant rise in the incidence of leukemia and thyroid cancer in the populations living downwind from the nuclear testing site.
The Conqueror —Susan Hayward died of brain cancer March 14, 1975. It is now believed that she was exposed to radioactive toxins while filming "The Conqueror" (1956). Many involved in that film, John Wayne, Agnes Moorehead, John Hoyt, Hayward herself, and the film's director, Dick Powell, died of cancer. Pedro Armendariz killed himself after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. At least 91 of the 220 member's of the cast and crew contracted cancer. "The Conqueror" was filmed near nuclear testing grounds. After filming on location, 60 tons of radioactive soil was shipped back to Hollywood to be used in interior shots.
The nuclear testing in question took place at the Nevada National Security Site from 1951 to 1963. "Operation Upshot-Knothole" in 1953 involved the detonation of 11 atomic bombs, almost all of which were larger than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The fallout from the Nevada National Security Site tended to drift directly over St. George, Utah, 137 miles (220 km) away. Because of the prevailing winds, much of it would concentrate in the Snow Canyon area. The following year, "The Conqueror" filmed in Snow Canyon for 13 weeks. One of the largest nuclear bombs dropped causing tremendous fallout on St. George, was called, "Dirty Harry".
According to the National Cancer Institute, the U.S. population was exposed to a total dose of 4,000,000 Person-Sievert of iodine-131 through the nuclear weapon tests in Nevada. That is about 500 times the total radiation dose of Chernobyl (7,300 PSv). [Editor's note: Information about the three ongoing Fukushima meltdowns is censored.] A study published in 1999 estimated that the expected cases of thyroid cancer due to the Nevada nuclear weapons tests amount to 10,000–75,000.
Another report, published in 2006, found that 1,800 radiation-related leukemia deaths could be expected in the U.S. as a result of the Nevada nuclear weapons tests. Despite these alarming findings, no routine thyroid cancer screenings are undertaken in the affected regions.
Outlook — Until today, the Nevada Test Site remains contaminated with an estimated 11,100?PBq of radioactive material in the soil and 4,440?PBq in groundwater. The U.S. has not yet ratified the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty of 1996. In 1990, the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act was passed in order to compensate Downwinders for diseases that could be traced back to radiation exposure. Due to bureaucratic hurdles and a lack of large-scale scientific research, many of the casualties of nuclear weapons testing are finding it difficult to actually receive compensation. The Hibakusha of Nevada feel left alone with the legacy of nuclear testing.
MARSHALL ISLANDS TEST SITES — The United States conducted 67 nuclear explosive tests in the Marshall Islands between 1946 and 1958. In 1962, the United States halted atmospheric nuclear explosive tests, like those conducted in the Marshall Islands, and ended all nuclear explosive testing in 1992. Many children there, in the Marshall Island, born during and after the tests, were called, "jellyfish babies" ... because they were born without bones in their bodies. As of February 2012, there were 135 individuals remaining in DOE's Program for people on Rongelap and Utrik atolls exposed to local fallout from the Bravo test. In addition, with funds from the DOI, the RMI provides a basic medical care program titled the "Four-Atoll Health Care Program (Marshall Islands)" for people of the four affected atolls, (here).

The Targeted Individuals living nearby U.S. nuclear power plants are 160,876,377 people by the official 2010 US Census. Every nuclear reactor releases fallout & every nuclear reactor site stores nuclear waste. Every nuclear reactor site is a nuclear dump.
Each of these sites can have as many as 4-to-6 nuclear reactors. A handful of the reactors have been shut down. Each one legally discharges tritium & up to 1,000 other radionuclides, every day. It is all covered up, and the effects of low level radiation are, in a nut shell, accumulative ... and can add up to many of the same health affects of major disasters, (but take a longer time to manifest). They are all nuclear bombs exploding in double-framing (slow motion).
Do you remember the Julia Roberts movie, Erin Brockovitch? ...when Erin is in negotiations with an opposing attorney and offers her a glass of water; and just before her opponent is about to drink it, Erin says, "That water is from Hinckley." Same thing, with different lethal chemicals in your groundwater.

The Fallout-Targeted Individuals living nearby U.S. nuclear power plants are 160,876,377 people by the official 2010 US Census
by Bob Nichols, who collects & charts Nuclear Fallout Forecast data on an ongoing basis
The Targeted Individuals living nearby U.S. nuclear power plants are 160,876,377 people by the official 2010 US Census. The next official census starts in 2020. The poor souls live within range of a leaking nuclear power plant and catch radiation poisoning. All nuke power plants leak radiation; the nukes leak on purpose. The Rad cannot be contained; so, they are built that way. No, the nuke power plants cannot be sued. The rich owners think the trade-off for your health and life is worth their profit. I do not. No Agency will tell you this. All physicists know this is true. Their jobs depend on their not telling you.
The Individuals in the Targeted Area are exposed to the measured Cumulative Gamma Rad for 2019 YTD PLUS 2018 of: 7,094,240,399 CPM January 2018 Plus YTD 2019. All cities on the list are measuring excessive radiation. Source: RadNet Gamma radiation readings are reported by the hour throughout the year. Radiation covers the U.S. like a deadly blanket. That’s 8,760 cpm hourly reports on each city listed in a year. That’s 8,784 cpm hourly reports in a leap year. Radiation is cumulative so the Total Gamma Radiation continues to increase as long as humans continue to produce the Rads with nuclear power factories and nuclear detonations, mining, trafficking waste, transportation and nuclear dump waste and accumulative atmospheric fallout.
A few words from columnist Bob Nichols — site links.
Look up your city on a RadNet Rad Monitor right away.

One way to measure the Rad became widespread in the States. That is, by measuring, recording and publishing the Total Gamma Radiation at ground level at many locations in the United States. Those Rad Numbers are presented in the above chart. Starting the Rad Count over at the first of the year is the convention. That is misleading to non-physicists. I reject that standard start-over practice as silly. It is absurd to think that Billions of Rad Counts JUST GO AWAY ON JANUARY 1 EACH YEAR.
Weekly increases in radiation are way too high a price to pay in deaths and lost health; in addition to just being the wrong thing to do. Most politicians say nuclear bombs are good. Note: Colorado Springs data was WITHHELD for 2006 and 2007, and continues to be WITHHELD by the powers that be. I wonder what really happened around Colorado Springs in 2006 and 2007, don’t you?
Once emitted from the nuclear power plant, the Rad travels with the wind. Much of it goes around the world and is detected on the West Coast of the States.
There are 525,600 total minutes in 2019. All cities on the list are measuring excessive radiation: 2,930,631,893 CPM YTD 2019.

Dr. John Gofman, Medical Director, Livermore Nuclear Weapons Lab famously called that kind of thing “premeditated murder.” “This is a bad situation for all who breathe,” states EU physicist Dr. Paolo Scampa.
Bottom-line, this is way too much radiation for humans to take. I despise the inhuman people responsible for this worldwide calamity. Tell your smart friends; the others, not so much; they will not believe you. The Perps knew exactly what they were doing and did it anyway. That’s textbook psychopathic behavior and a whole bucketload of Criminal Acts.
Denial is strong in Americans; expect it often. Don’t let it get you down; there are millions of folks who know the score on the Rad. Persevere, Find Others. Figure out what to do.
All cities with RadNet Total Gamma Radiation counters are above the Maximum Safe Gamma Radiation Level. Their killer attack on your body’s trillions of cells never ceases. It did not used to be that way y’know – back in the day. There were only four radioactive Isotopes then in existence and their Decay products. They were mostly in the ground. Today there are 1,946 known radioactive Isotopes in existence in our atmosphere. The known Gamma radioactive Isotopes are measured by RadNet and reported here. Cell assassins, like Plutonium 239, and its brothers were never around; they did not exist on this Planet. RadNet has largely stopped reporting radioactive Beta counts. No explanation given.
What started Rad Counting? DC got zapped. RadNet measured and recorded 7.38billion Beta radiation counts in Washington, DC in 2006.
Only a few countries possessed that kind of nuke power for excursions; including the United States of America. The Perps and/or corporation(s) / country or countries that caused the radiation excursion to occur never have been identified publicly. Speculation varies widely.
Who did it? Recorded by RadNet, it displayed the real radiation threat to life and limb. RadNet measures and records Raw Total Gamma Radiation in Counts per Minute and nSv/Hour. Beta Counts are measured and recorded on various occasions. RadNet started publishing radiation data in 2006. I suspect strongly the nine Nuclear Weapons Labs collected the radiation data for years before 2006. To date, the Radiation Counts before 2006 are not released to the public.
Max Normal Safe Level – The United States is a very radioactive country now. No cities are below the MaxNormalSafeLevel; all cities are above safe level. This includes cities and towns not on the list. The raw records of Total Gamma Radiation are easily accessible with a computer and a fast Internet connection at RadNet, a directorate of the EPA. RadNet simply presents the raw Total Gamma Radiation data. I process the raw data to a useable form. Use a fast InterNet connection or run the look-ups as a background task. Either way, you get the data yourself. The amount of Rad in the air now dooms humanity to a relatively quick extinction. Have a wonderful radioactive weekend; remember to Dodge the Rads, it’s dangerous out there.

now do you get it? — nuclear- reactor, fallout & waste denial gives 41,000 people every day fatal & non-fatal cancer. nuclear- reactors, fallout & waste processed in nuclear denial, kill you. nuclear energy is a military weapon & a financial warfare weapon.
These are the diseases that people downwind of nuclear test grounds get & are awarded settlements over: (attorney for down-winders, (here) in arizona, nevada, utah; bile duct cancer | bladder cancer | brain cancer | breast cancer | colon cancer | esophagus cancer | gall gladder cancer | leukemia | liver cancer | lung cancer | multiple myeloma | nasal pharynx cancer | lymphoma | ovarian cancer | pancreas cancer | rectal cancer | salivary gland cancer | small intestine cancer | stomach cancer | thyroid cancer| (here) — at downwinders claims, they want to help you and your loved ones receive the financial compensation that you deserve. If you or a loved one has suffered from various forms of cancer and live in utah, arizona, or nevada, you may be entitled to upwards of $50,000 tax-free. the downwinders claim indicates that you are eligible for this compensation due to the radioactive nuclear fallout.

[Editor's note: Fukushima results from Japan are censored1; the globalist nuclear industry including U.S. universities insisted there were no meltdowns2, nor any danger3, and Japanese journalists who used the words, meltdown, or plutonium, were subject to imprisonment4 as traitors for disagreeing with the offical State position ...and physicians who diagnosed radiation in the largest nuclear accident in world history5 would not be paid6 and could risk losing their license7 for disagreeing with the official State position. It is interesting to note that as of late June-May 1, 2022 California has pending legislation forbidding doctors to tell the truth about CoVid to their patients8 or they can lose their license to practice medicine. That is exactly what happened in Japan9,(except in Japan, doctors were not allowed to tell the truth about nuclear radiation, radiation sickness, immune deficiency dieseases from radiation sickness, fallout, meltdowns etc) ... with oversight from CIA10, Kissinger11, Hillary12 and the rest of the cold blooded murdering cold warriors13 trying to provoke nuclear war between the U.S. and Russia14 by fighting a proxy war15 in Ukraine. It is also interesting to note the Schroder Bank16 subsidiary Bechtel17 runs California and U.S. politics with San Francisco politicians such as Reagan, Schultz, Pelosi, Feinstein, Harris, Newsom18 and is using San Francisco ABCDE ethics and morality as a State and National smokescreen19 behind which they have made the use of natural gas illegal20 in new homes in California; and that Bechtel21 and PG&E22 and GE23 execs share the same tent at Bohemian Grove24 and that Bechtel is building new reactors with oligarch Bill Gates at Hanford25 and in China26 and wants to eliminate internal combustion engines27 and use electricity created by steam turbines at nuclear reactors at taxpayer expense to rocket up third quarter earnings, perpetually.28]

[Editor's note] Attorneys represent downwinders in the United States, (here). Downwinders, (in this case) refers to people and animals in the intermountain area between the Cascades and Rocky Mountain ranges primarily in Arizona, Nevada, Utah ...but, also Oregon, Washington and Idaho were/are exposed to nuclear contamination or fallout and hot particles from atmospheric or underground nuclear weapons testing and nuclear accidents ...also refers to ionizing radiation and emissions exposure from day-to-day production and maintenance of coal ash, nuclear weapons, nuclear power, waste, hot particles and geothermal energy.
Near U.S. nuclear sites, downwinders are exposed to releases of nuclear waste and hot particles of radioactive materials into groundwater, food chains and air. (Other downwinders suffer acute exposure from uranium mining and nuclear experiments.)

Published Sat, July 13, 2019 by Common Dreams Top secret lethal cover-up hurts millions...Sixty Years Today Since the Santa Susanna Melt-down Cover-up of the Largest U.S. Nuclear Meltdown– Robert Dodge is a family physician practicing in Ventura, CA, Co-Chair of the Security Committee of National Physicians for Social Responsibility; President of Physicians for Social Responsibility Los Angeles.
Abstract of excertped article – ...about 60 years ago, July 13, 1959, the largest nuclear accident in U.S. happened above the Southern California community of Simi Valley when the Santa Susanna Field Laboratory (SSFL) site had a nuclear meltdown.
That was kept secret for two decades. It has resulted in ongoing local health effects that persist to this day in a triumph of corporate greed and unbridled power over the sanctity and safety of human life. It remains one of the most highly contaminated sites in the country, with radionuclides cesium-137, strontium-90, plutonium-239 and toxic chemicals perchlorate, trichloroethylene (TCE), heavy metals and dioxins. These toxins are associated with a multitude of health risks. Many are cancer causing, others are neurotoxins causing a learning disabilities, birth defects, immune deficiency disorders and health effects that women and children are most vulnerable, to. In 2006, a cluster of retinoblastoma cases, a rare eye cancer affecting young children, was identified within an area downwind of the site.
Public Health Institute's 2012 California Breast Cancer Mapping Project found that the rate of breast cancer is higher in Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Oak Park and Moorpark than in almost any other place in the state. In addition, studies by cancer registries found elevated rates of bladder cancer and studies found elevated cancer death rates among both the nuclear and rocket worker and offsite dangerous exposure to hazardous chemicals by the surrounding subject population.
These contaminants do not stay on site. When it rains, they wash off site to the Valleys below. When it blows, they become airborne and migrate offsite.
The 2017 Woolsey fire is a most recent example. After initially denials, officials finally admitted the fire actually started on the field lab site burning across almost the entire site and potentially spreading toxic chemicals over the basin. No adequate monitoring was performed and began days after the flames had moved on. Boeing, under scrutiny after the 737 MAX crashes, launched a massive greenwashing campaign to convince the public the contamination was minimal, never hurt anyone, and the site doesn't need much cleanup because it is going to be an open space park.
Boeing prefers a re-designation to recreational cleanup standards based on someone being on the site infrequently limited to a few hours per week. But people who live near SSFL don't live in recreational areas, they live in residential areas and as long as the site isn't fully cleaned up, they will still be at risk of exposure to SSFL contamination.
Melissa Bumstead, an adjacent West Hills resident whose daughter has twice survived a rare leukemia and who has mapped over 50 other rare pediatric cancers near SSFL, is bringing fresh energy and new voices into the cleanup fight. Her Change.org petition has now been signed by over 650,000 people and is helping to galvanize the community to fight for the full, promised cleanup, (original article, here).
Girl's Cancer — Mom's 'Overwhelmed' — Sick Kids Near Closed Nuclear Lab
"Pediatric cancer is rare — you're not supposed to have neighbors whose children also have it," says Melissa Bumstead, who "knew I had to do something"
Since 2015 Bumstead has immersed herself in scientific studies on the site, testifying at countless public meetings, launching a Facebook page (now with nearly 5,000 members) and creating a change.org petition on the issue (that has attracted over 750,000 signatures).
"It was frightening," says Bumstead, who is featured in the 2021 documentary In The Dark of the Valley, "to read studies about how adults who lived within two miles from the lab had a 60 percent higher cancer rate than those living more than five miles away or that over 1,500 former workers at the site received federal compensation after being diagnosed with cancer."
Even more frightening for Bumstead was learning that the lab was the location of one of the nation's largest — and least known — nuclear accidents that occurred 1959 when one of the facility's ten sodium nuclear reactors experienced a partial meltdown, releasing enormous amounts of radiation into the surrounding environment.
We all breathe & eat deadly isotopes in our food & drink them in our water —by Bob Nichols
We all breathe & eat deadly isotopes in our food & drink them in our water; lethal metal isotope particles so small from the air they go right thru our clothes & skin
Muzzle velocity & range: 1 milligram of uranium, which is smaller than you can comfortably see, radiates outward 850 particles and energy squibbs a minute. These particles will kill or maim you.
Think of them as small, radioactive bullets. Some move with remarkable speeds, with a muzzle velocity of 983,568,960 feet per second, or 299,792,458 meters per second.
To a group of red blood cells or liver cells 'standing' next to the little, evil uranium particle, it must seem like hell on Earth ...only worse. The destructive fire from the uranium rounds never stops.
Inside kill job:the rounds have a range of about 20 cells in all directions. The radioactive isotopes make a perfect killing machine. We are struck with the 850 rounds per minute per milligram ... throughout our lives ... as a deadly reality from the pro-nukers ...(you all know one). Shun them.
Criminalize them. Send them to their well-deserved reward. The pro-nukers have shortened all our expected life spans. The rapid killing off and maiming of all humanity, the animal kindom, and all living things is what we are talking about. (Cont in accompanying & following youtubes)
Nuclear industry is today’s embodiment of lasting evil throughout the centuries. Their hatred of fellow humanoids on this planet is a plague far worse than any disease.
I Spit on Your Grave —by Bob Nichols
"Now they are only speeding up the killing, maiming and mutation of humans, animals and plants, in fact, of all life on the planet. The Earth is already fully consumed by their poisons. There is no cure; and, there is not even any medicine. That is an absolute."
Excerpt from the published article: "...Throughout history tyrants slaughtered innocent people without remorse. Pro-Nukers make them look like grade school children in comparison. We all know the tyrants names: Stalin, Hitler, Genghis Khan.
But, who knows the name of your local random murderer – your local Pro-Nuker? Killing is what Pro-Nukers do best. The numbers of the nuclear dead are astonishing. What’s more, they’ve got your number, too. Which Humans?
For many sincere but superficial people everyone “has some good in them.” How many times have you heard that trite phrase? It is as overtly stupid as it is blatantly untrue. For real evil we have only to look to the persons present in every country who are “Pro-Nukers.”
For they are the today’s embodiment of lasting evil throughout the centuries. Their hatred of fellow humanoids on this planet is a plague far worse than any disease. (continued in the above video)
When we use nuclear power, we create something nature tried to destroy to make life possible
Until about two billion years ago, it was impossible to have any life on Earth; that is, there was so much radiation on Earth you couldn’t have any life – fish or anything. Gradually, two billion years ago, the amount of radiation on this planet – and probably in the entire system – reduced and made it possible for some form of life to begin. Now when we go back to using nuclear power, we are creating something which nature tried to destroy to make life possible. Every time you produce radiation, you produce something that has a half-life, in some cases for billions of years. I think the human race may wreck itself; it is important that we get control of this horrible force and eliminate it. Nuclear power is not worth it. —Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, U.S. Navy officer, engineer, & driving force behind naval nuclear power
All of life on Earth is radioactive now, and it only took about 70 years. The more people, plants and animals get, the quicker they sicken. It is just that simple. —Bob Nichols
For this other death - not by plague, this time, not by poison, not by fire, not by artificially induced cancer, but by the squalid disintegration of the very substance of the species - this gruesome and infinitely unheroic death-in-birth could as well be the product of atomic industry as of atomic war.—Ape and Essence by Aldous Huxley (1949)

Airborne Contamination in California
Several massive pulses of radionuclides were released to the atmosphere from Fukushima between March 12 and 18, 2011 – 134Cs and 137Cs persisted at trace levels – in on-going air monitoring at Berkeley through the end of 2012.
Rainwater Contamination in California
March 2011 was an unusually wet month in California (~200% of normal monthly precipitation in the Bay Area) due to several large storms which resulted in discrete wet deposition events on March 18-20 and 22-26 - 134Cs and 137Cs were present, at low levels, after 70 days. However, it is worth noting that low levels of radioactive cesium were still detectable in rainwater during subsequent wet seasons in 2012 and 2013, reflecting the continued presence of Fukushima-derived cesium in the atmosphere.
Food Chain Contamination in California
Fukushima-derived radionuclides transferred from the atmosphere to the land through rainout or dry deposition have the potential to contaminate soil and water supplies, and to enter the food chain. Sampling of soil and sediments from several California locations detected a clear pulse of 131I, 134Cs and 137Cs between April – June 2011, with only 137Cs remaining above the pre-accident background thereafter (through Nov 2012). Plant and food samples collected in the Bay Area in April and May 2011 contained detectable concentrations of Fukushima-derived 131I, 134Cs, and 137Cs, indicating that low-level contamination of the water and soil had worked its way into local ecosystems.
Public Health Impacts
Fukushima disaster presented (and continues to present) a low risk to public health relative to other concerns. However, it is worth reiterating that the health implications of exposure to low levels of radiation remain incompletely understood, and that the incremental impacts of the radiation released at Fukushima may be very difficult to separate from those of other radiation sources and the many other causes of disease.

Title: Japan’s Black Dust, with Marco Kaltofen Source: Fairewinds Energy Education Date: July 10, 2013
Marco Kaltofen, President at Boston Chemical Data Corp. & Doctoral student researcher at Worcester Polytechnic Institute: We kept hearing reports about something unusual, a black dust - we finally got a very small sample of that.
What’s different about this material is unlike a lot of the soil and dust samples we’ve gotten, there’s a real uniformity to this stuff. It’s a single substance. It’s not a mix of mineral particles and pieces of dead bugs and plant matter and dust particles. It’s actually very homogenous and uniform when you look at it under the microscope. And it doesn’t look like the surrounding soils. And it is much more intensely radioactive than any other soil or dust sample we’ve gotten from around Fukushima Daiichi. So this material is different. It’s not a natural soil. There’s something unusual happening with this stuff.
The sample had fairly high levels of radium 226. Now that’s not a radioisotope that we hear as much about. The radium 226 has almost as much activity as the radioactive Cesium in the sample. Radium 226 is a degradation product of uranium and we can’t really detect the uranium directly. And this tells me that this particle contains not only fission waste products from the reactor but very likely contains a concentrated unburned nuclear fuel. And that’s unusual. This sample had by far the highest level of uranium daughters that we’ve seen in a dust or soil sample. We’re actually seeing material that might well have come from inside a failed fuel assembly. Arnie Gundersen, Fairewinds’ Chief Engineer: Okay. When I hear that, that’s clear evidence that the containment was breached. The interesting thing to me is that when I hear black, I think of like algae or fungi or something like that. But you’re saying this is not an organic substance. Is that right?
Kaltofen: No. It’s not an organic substance. It’s a mixture of very small particles and just the way they aggregate gives it the appearance of being black, but it’s - it probably - I won’t say optical illusion, but it’s an optical effect of the size of the particles and the way they’re joined together.
Gundersen: Are these particles light enough for people to ingest them or breathe them in?
Kaltofen: Well, certainly they could be ingested - right now I would say they’re much more an ingestion hazard. And that usually tends to target children and agricultural workers. A child on average consumes between 100 and 200 milligrams of soil a day because of hand-to-mouth activity. So that’s something to really think about.

Jan. 20-24, 2014 (emphasis added): 2011 Fukushima Fall Out: Aerial Deposition On To Sea Ice Scenario And Wildlife Health Implications To Ice-Associated Seals (Dr. Doug Dasher, John Kelley, Gay Sheffield, Raphaela Stimmelmayr). We present results on gamma analysis (cesium 134 and 137) of muscle tissue from control and diseased seals, and discuss wildlife health implications from different possible routes of exposure to Fukushima fallout to ice seals. Since the Fukushima fallout period occurred during the annual sea ice cover period from Nome to Barrow, a sea ice based fallout scenario in addition to a marine food web based one is of particular relevance for the Fukushima accident. Under a proposed sea ice fallout deposition scenario, radionuclides would have been settled onto sea ice. Sea ice and snow editor’s note - index: snow would have acted as a temporary refuge for deposited radionuclides; thus radionuclides would have only become available for migration during the melting season and would not have entered the regional food web in any appreciable manner until breakup (pulsed release). The cumulative on-ice exposure for ice seals would have occurred through external, inhalation, and non-equilibrium dietary pathways during the ice-based seasonal spring haul-out period for molting/pupping/breeding activities. Additionally, ice seals would have been under dietary/metabolic constraints and experiencing hormonal changes associated with reproduction and molting.
